Can you repair a stone chip in a heated windscreen/windshield?
Yes, windscreen / windshield chip repair is possible on a heated windscreen / windshield as the repair is on the outer surface. Will the heating element get damaged - possibly. Will you notice? Depends on how many strands get broken. Best course of action - ask the Centre Glass for advice -. We have done some before you!
We treat heated windscreens / windshields the same as non-heated windscreens / windshields, the repair process is the same and the results should be too. Your windscreen / windshield chip will be sealed and you can drive safely straight after the repair.
Remember the rule of thumb is as follows:
A windscreen / windshield chip less than 3mm (smaller than a matchstick head) does not usually need to be repaired.
A windscreen / windshield chip less than 25mm (smaller than a £2 coin) is repairable.
A windscreen / windshield chip over 25mm is usually non-repairable.
There is a size limit of around 6cm where a windscreen / windshield crack is not too large to compromise the safety of the glass if it is repaired. Whilst a windscreen / windshield crack larger than that can be repaired, the car may require the assistance of windscreen / windshield replacement services to assess the level of damage. If the windscreen / windshield crack is in the centre of the glass and not too deep then you can usually repair a windscreen / windshield crack as big as 3 inches. Any bigger and it will likely require a complete windscreen / windshield replacement. There is a size limit of around 6cm where a windscreen / windshield crack is not too large to compromise the safety of the glass if it is repaired. Whilst windscreen / windshield crack larger than that can be repaired, the car may require the assistance of windscreen / windshield replacement services to assess the level of damage.
